2006 Highlights

By David Baugh

The sports' programs at Youngstown Ursuline High School have been on a mission this decade, and this year is no exception.  At "press time," the football team just finished a 8-2 regular season and are set to host a playoff game next weekend.  Meanwhile, the basketball team is prepping for another season on the hardwood.  Despite losing D'Aundray Brown to graduation (currently at Cleveland State), don't expect a down year for the Irish.  The leader of the Irish this season will be senior guard Nick McCartney.  While his size won't intimidate you (5'9, 150 pounds), don't expect him to back down from a challenge either.  In fact, McCartney has already shown the ability to take over games when needed.

He handles the ball very well and he possesses a solid jump shot.  He's unselfish, so while he has the ability to shoot from anywhere on the court, he always knows where his teammates are on the floor.  If you pay too much attention to him, he'll find one of his teammates.  If not, he can create his own opportunities with his quickness and ball handling skills.  It will be interesting to see how much noise Ursuline will make this year, but it's definitely the perfect opportunity for McCartney to shine even brighter than he did last year.  He's a big sleeper recruiting wise, but whoever gets him will get more than they ask for.
