By David Baugh At 6'0, 301 pounds, Phil McNeal was a powerful defensive tackle who was very stingy when it came to giving up yards on the ground. Not only was he big & strong, but he was quick enough to surprise opposing offensive linemen with a nice swim move that was hard to stop when performed. He was an emotional leader on the field who always kept his teammates pumped up throughout games. There weren't too many teams that racked up big yardage (depending on what you call big yardage) on Warren Harding back in those days with McNeal & company stuffing the middle and swarming to the ball. Often times, McNeal would be in opposing backfields as much as the tailbacks themselves, which made him difficult to stop. Originally, McNeal accepted a football scholarship to Kent State University in 2004, but due to health problems that he suffered from early in his freshman year, he doesn't play football anymore.
