ScoutingOhio.com Hall of Fame Tony Gonzalez By David Baugh
At 6'0, 187 pounds, Tony Gonzalez was a huge impact player on both side of the ball. His blazing speed and soft hands made him a huge asset on the field at all times. Playing at Cleveland St. Ignatius, under arguably one of the best head coaches in Ohio high school football history in Chuck Kyle, only make the story even sweeter, as the Wildcats are no stranger to success. With a 6-4 record in the 2001 regular season, it seems like the proud program was nowhere near the level of past Ignatius teams, but the results after week ten makes you wonder if they really were as the Wildcats on a serious playoff run that resulted in the school's unprecedented ninth state championship. Gonzalez outstanding early and often, putting the icing on the cake with a dominant performance in the Wildcats' 37-6 state championship game victory over the Bombers of Cincinnati St. Xavier, a school has handed St. Ignatius one of their four regular season losses. Recently, Gonzalez has taken his game to yet another level at The Ohio State University, emerging as one of the many bright spots in the Buckeye's powerful offense. The best has yet to come. |
